MASTER 500t
MCA Master 500gt / 3000gt Modules
At PYT, we offer the full suite of MCA-required modules for candidates progressing towards Master 500gt or Master 3000gt certification.
These courses are designed for experienced OOWs and senior deck officers preparing to step into command. Each module is delivered with a strong operational focus — combining examination preparation with real-world command application.
Advanced Navigation & Radar (10 Days)
This intensive 10-day module builds on OOW-level navigation and focuses on command-level decision making.
Topics include:
- Advanced passage planning and appraisal
- Radar plotting and ARPA interpretation at command level
- Bridge management and navigational decision making
- Electronic navigation systems and limitations
- COLREGS application in complex scenarios
The course prepares candidates for both the written examination and the practical realities of navigational command onboard large yachts.
Seamanship & Meteorology (5 Days)
Designed to develop command-level seamanship knowledge and environmental awareness.
Topics include:
- Heavy weather decision making
- Advanced anchoring and mooring operations
- Towing and emergency procedures
- Meteorological systems and weather interpretation
- Ocean weather patterns and forecasting
This module bridges practical seamanship with strategic decision making expected of a Master.
Business & Law (5 Days)
This module prepares candidates for the legal and commercial responsibilities of command.
Topics include:
- Maritime law and Master’s authority
- SOLAS, MARPOL and regulatory frameworks
- ISM and safety management systems
- Crew management and employment law
- Insurance and commercial considerations
It ensures candidates understand not only how to navigate a vessel — but how to legally and professionally command one.
Stability (5 Days)
A critical module focused on vessel stability at Master level.
Topics include:
- Intact and damaged stability
- Use of stability books
- Free surface effect
- Load line and compliance
- Stability calculations and interpretation
This course ensures candidates can confidently interpret stability data and make safe loading decisions under operational pressure.
Master’s Celestial (refresher) (5 Days)
A focused celestial navigation module preparing candidates for the MCA Master’s level examination.
Topics include:
- Sight planning and reduction
- Use of the Nautical Almanac
- Sun, star and planet sights
- Compass checks
- Position fixing using celestial bodies
Beyond exam preparation, this module reinforces traditional navigation skills that remain fundamental to command-level competence.
